Fort Scott Broadcasting Company, Inc., owns and operates KOMB-FM and KMDO-AM Radio Station’s in Fort Scott, KS. Owners of the company, Tim & Deb McKenney, have a long family history in the broadcast business. Tim’s grandfather, Lloyd Clinton McKenney, built the first AM radio Stations in several Midwest communities including Carthage, Mo., Monett, Mo., Branson, Mo., Bolivar, Mo., and Iola, KS.. In October of 1954, Tim’s father, Lloyd James McKenney, opened KMDO-AM, 1600, in Fort Scott, KS. In Feb. of 1981, Tim McKenney opened KOMB-FM.
Today, KOMB-FM (All Hit 103.9) serves not only Fort Scott, but most of southeast Kansas and a good part of southwest Missouri. The format is contemporary hit music from today and yesterday. We also have a heavy emphasis on local news, sports and weather.
Both KOMB and KMDO are very active in the communities they serve. Some of the many events that the Radio Station’s sponsor throughout the year include the Annual Home, Sport, Farm and Garden Show held at Arnold Arena on the campus of Fort Scott Community College. The Radio Auction held every year in late January and throughout February on both 103.9FM and 1600 AM.
If sports are your thing, we have that as well. The stations carry almost all home and away games of the Fort Scott Tigers and FSCC Greyhound Football teams. We also carry Tiger Boys and Girls basketball. We also are affiliates of the KC Chiefs, KC Royals and KU Jayhawks. On occasion, we carry games from communities surrounding Fort Scott, and also several other Tiger sports, including some baseball and wrestling events.
We are a FOX News affiliate with newscasts on top of each hour.
We have one of the only “Live” call-in talk shows in southeast Kansas with our weekly “Soapbox” program, hosted by morning man Larry Gazaway. We also feature weekly trade programs including Trading Post, Party Line and Party Post.
